Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw succeeds Mukesh Ambani as Chairperson of IIM-B board

MUMBAI: Biocon chairman and managing director Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw has succeeded RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani as chairperson of the IIM Bangalore board of governors, said a statement issued by the institute on Tuesday.

With this, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw becomes the first woman chairperson of any IIM board in the country. According to the IIM-B statement, at a meeting of the institute’s board of governors on February 11, Mukesh Ambani informed the board about his decision to step down.

The board, accordingly, appointed Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw as the chairperson with effect from February 11, 2014. Mazumdar-Shaw has been a member of the IIM-B Board for the past several years and takes over after Mukesh Ambani’s eight-year run as IIM-B BOG chairman. HRD ministry has notified the change.
