JM Financial ropes in Ex-UBS India head Anuj Kapoor

Anuj Kapoor, former Managing Director & Head of Investment Banking at UBS India has joined homegrown financial services firm JM Financial. At JM, Anuj joined as the Managing Director & CEO - Private Wealth and Alternative Funds Platform.

Anuj will be responsible for the wealth management business, including the international business and building the venture capital investments, said people aware of the development.

An investment banking veteran, Anuj has been working in the financial services industry for the last 24 years. He was the MD at Barclays Investment Bank for 11 years before joining UBS in 2017. He also worked as Head of Structured Finance at GE Capital.


At UBS, Anuj was involved with equity transactions such as IPO of HDFC Life, Raheja’s Mindspace REIT, QIPs for HDFC, Axis Bank, private placements for Byju’s, MPL and block sale of 5% stake in Bharti Airtel on behalf of QIF.

He also led several M&A transactions including Partners Group's buyout of ACT Broadband, sale of New York-based Arysta LifeScience to UPL, sale of ILFS’ road asset investment in China.

When contacted, Anuj declined to comment, while JM Financial could not be reached for comment.

Recently, Morgan Stanley’s former head of mergers and acquisitions in India S. Sundareswaran had rejoined the US firm after a short stint as a partner with Alta Capital, a property investment manager and adviser.

Shailendra Sabhnani, former Executive Director and Head of Real Estate at Kotak Investment Banking had joined Morgan Stanley as executive director in September 2021.
