It's India for holidaying CEOs
If you thought CEOs head for an overseas destination every time they think about a year-end vacation, you are mistaken. Incredible India is their chosen address this year.
Leading CEOs are travelling round the year across the globe and are away from families for long. So a domestic location it is — not too far away from their homes but still distant enough to avoid corporate jungle.
Moreover, Indian locations have become ‘exotic’ destinations for most double-income families which travel abroad at least once a year. That’s when the Kumarakoms, Shimlas and Munnars become exciting. Many families have not seen enough of India.
Says Ravi Chauhan, Nortel India MD: “Indian tourist spots are more enjoyable .’’ Chauhan is looking at Kovalam for year-end holiday.
For Wockhardt Hospitals CEO Vishal Bali, it’s soothing to visit a place which is close by. “I’ve chosen Ooty; no headache of a long journey home.”
Says Cobra Beer regional director Perses Billimoria: “London is our headquarters and there is no shortage of travel. So places like Rajasthan appear attractive. This new year, I’ll be attending a relative’s wedding in Delhi.”
Same is the case with General Motors India president and MD Rajeev Chaba. “My wife is planning my yearend vacation and I’m led to believe it’s a place 200 km from Delhi.’’ Ditto with Subex Systems CEO Subhash Menon, who’s planning a Kerala holiday.
Gaura Sundaram, CEO, Lionel India , echoes: “Domestic vacations are superior in terms of quality of overall experience without having to undergo long-haul travel hassles.”
