BANGALORE: InterfaceFLOR India, the 100 per cent subsidiary of InterfaceFLOR Europe, a world wide leader in manufacture of modular commercial flooring, today announced that its Bangalore facility had achieved the LEED CI Gold certification from the US Green Building Council.
"The InterfaceFLOR facility is the first building in Bangalore and third in India to receive the Leed-CI Gold honours", said Raj Menon, the firm's Country Manager, India.
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold For Commercial Interior (CI) Certifaction is a rating system developed by the US Green Building Council (USGBC) to encourage the development of more sustainable buildings and interiors.
"Going Green will reap tremendous benefits for us, both tangible and intangible, such as reduced operating cost and enhanced productivity of occupants", said Raj.
InterfaceFLOR had submitted 37 points for approval to USGBC, of which 35 points were approved, resulting in the facility being awarded the Gold category.
To meet the objective of achieving the Gold certifiaction, it reduced potable water use by more than 30 per cent through installation of low flow water closets and low flow urinals.
The CO2 sensors enabled the maintenance of the indoor environment air quality to the required levels. Twentysix per cent of the total materials used on the project were from rapidly renewable sources. Materials with high recyled content were also used. The original ceiling was retained, so also the use of natural daylight was maximised through design concepts.
