Infosys' Narayana Murthy says India won World Cup because of team spirit

Infosys Chief Mentor Narayana Murthy said talent wins games but when it comes to winning championships it is teamwork that matters.

BANGALORE: Infosys Chief Mentor Narayana Murthy on Saturday said talent wins games but when it comes to winning championships it is teamwork that matters and this was amply demonstrated in India's victory in the World Cup.

Quoting basketball legend Michael Jordan, Murthy said, "Talent wins games but team work wins championship", which he said was demonstrated in India's win at the World Cup.

"It(the World Cup win) happened finally because of team work," he said delivering the keynote address at the 'Fifth National Congress of Indian Society of Hip and Knee Surgeons' here.

Murthy said, "He (a good professional) is fair and unbiased and starts every transaction on a zero base and therefore does not carry any bias from a prior transaction to the current transaction".

He said a professional should seek to gather new knowledge, new data, keep his talent sharp, his intellect and skill sharp but at the same time conforming to his value system.

"Intellectual growth should commence at birth and cease with death, he said, quoting Einstein.
