'Industrial units spend Rs 1,400 cr on diesel to run gensets'

Nearly 40,000 industrial units in and around Delhi spend Rs 1,400 crore per annum on diesel for running gensets to meet their production targets, says an Assocham study.

NEW DELHI: Nearly 40,000 industrial units in and around Delhi spend Rs 1,400 crore per annum on diesel for running gensets to meet their production targets, says an Assocham study.

These units roughly consume 35 crore litre of diesel annually, the study said.

The supply commitments to the vendors of these units fall by nearly 40 per cent if they don't make use of these Gensets as the power situation remains erratic and disruptive.

The NCR belt during peak and production hours on an average suffer power scarcity for 8-10 hours a day therefore these units install between 4-6 generator sets in each industrial location.

The study also points out that over 38,260 small, medium and large industrial units including BPOs, IT companies operating in NOIDA, Gurgaon, Ghaziabad etc consume Rs 117 crore per month of diesel to cope up with the erratic power supply and to meet their production commitments.

The excess consumption of diesel for running Gensets by thousands of industrial units in the region, makes the industry incompatible as their margins suffer shrinkages because of high cost of diesel.
