In 2008: 16 players: Bharti Airtel, Vodafone India, Idea Cellular, Aircel, Reliance Communications, Spice Comm, BPL Mobile, Tata Teleservices, Shyam Telelink (now: Sistema Shyam Teleservices), HFCL, BSNL, MTNL, Uninor (later: Telenor), Videocon, S Tel, Swan Telecom (later: Etisalat India).

2008: Idea buys Spice; June 2010: Mukesh Ambani returns to telecom – RIL shells out Rs 4,800 crore to buy 95% in Infotel Broadband (owned by HFCL)— the sole winner of pan-India broadband airwaves

Feb 2012: SC quashes 122 permits issued by A Raja in the 2G case. Uninor (22 licences) and Sistema Shyam (21 licences, excepting Rajasthan circle) were worst hit. Others impacted were Idea (3 circles), Tata Tele (3 circles), S Tel (6 circles), Etisalat DB (15 circles), Videocon (21 circles), Spice (4 circles) Etisalat DB and Bahrain Telecom (which had a stake in S Tel) exit India following licence cancellations in the2G case

2014: BPL Mobile (later called Loop Mobile) shuts down Sept 2016 : Jio launches commercial 4G services, offers free voice for life and does not charge for data for the first six months, disrupting the telecom industry like never before.
