Indian firms are WEF tech pioneers

The World Economic Forum (WEF) has named two Indian firms, Strand Lifesciences and Drishtee, as technology pioneers for 2007.


BANGALORE: The World Economic Forum (WEF) has named two Indian firms, Strand Lifesciences and Drishtee, as technology pioneers for 2007.

The two are among 47 companies selected worldwide and have been invited to attend the annual meeting of the WEF to be held in Davos from January 24-28, 2007.

Bangalore-based Strand Lifesciences is into lifesciences informatics, applying algorithms and other computer-based technologies to aid discovery and development of new drugs. The company was spun-off from the Indian Institute of Science’s innovation department.

It is promoted by four professors — Vijay Chandru, Ramesh Hariharan, Swami Manohar and V Vinay. Drishtee is a rural network for delivering services and related information to the village community through ICT (information and communication technologies) centres or information kiosks.

The kiosks are run by entrepreneurs selected from the villages and have been designed to follow a service delivery-based revenue model.
