Revenue in the year-ago quarter stood at ₹3,355 crore. Revenue from premium postal life insurance and rural postal life insurance (PLI/RPLI) grew 44%, while international relations and global business (IR&GB) revenue rose 38% year-on-year, Scindia said.
Revenue in the first half of the current financial year increased nearly 24% to ₹8,213 crore from about ₹6,500 crore a year earlier. The department's expenditure coverage ratio, excluding pension costs, rose to 62% in the September quarter from 54% a year earlier, an increase of eight percentage points.
Scindia urged chief postmaster generals (CPGMs) to focus on customer acquisition and retention, and expand business among government and private-sector clients. He also called for greater cross-selling of mail, parcel and insurance services, alongside faster digitisation.
"Each one of you is running your own independent business. Therefore, you are almost like CEOs," Scindia told CPGMs, asking them to identify opportunities specific to their regions.
He said India Post should use customer data analytics to deepen engagement across its services and set measurable digitisation targets through platforms such as Dak Seva and Dak Mitra.
