NEW DELHI: Corporate India, covering great lengths to retain talent, has now turned to creative and newfangled designations to attract employees. Call a sentry a 'Door Keeping Executive' and see his performance graph rise - seems to be the mantra of Indian corporate houses for whom giving fancy designation is a way of getting the talented workforce to excel.

"Cooking up designation to attract the right candidate in the new mantra of corporate houses. The concept is to promote the efficient ones by giving them a fair scope to work without him getting bored," career consultancy Whereismyboss.com Vice Chairman Aditya Vikram said.

Vikram said the trend of giving fancy designation is increasing by the day to other industries from the IT sector. He adds that the concept of fancy designation is not in vogue in family owned businesses, but is prevalent mostly among private firms.

"In the family owned businesses the owners are in-play with the management. The employers have mental bond with the employees and the concept of 'babudom' prevails," Vikram said. However, in the private sector the employees target short term satisfaction and to them designation is most important, he added.

The concept of fancy designation changes in a family businesses. "Family business prefers to call it an additional sub-department and the employees are provided with additional responsibility."
