'India Inc should impart knowledge on IPR with SMEs'

The government asked India Inc to play an active role in imparting their knowledge on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) with small and medium enterprises.

NEW DELHI: The government on Thursday asked India Inc to play an active role in imparting their knowledge on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) with small and medium enterprises.

"Large companies should take the partnership role in imparting knowledge of IPR to the small and medium enterprises (SME)," said Secretary, Ministry of Small Scale and Medium Enterprises Chandra Pal.

In India, large chunk of creativity and innovative ideas are initiated at the grass root level and therefore a mass awareness programme should be initiated for SME, said Pal speaking here at a seminar on IP Management in SMEs.

He further added that in order to sustain the current growth trend SMEs needed at least 50 lakh skilled man power per annum and to cover up the gap, process to develop skilled manpower should be increased 10 times.
