Business tycoon Mukesh Ambani dropped out of the elite top 10 wealthiest list after his wealth declined by Rs 1 lakh crore from last year due to rising debt levels, according to the latest Hurun Global Rich List 2025. Despite mounting loses, Ambani still held on to the title of Asia's richest person.

The world's wealthiest title was clinched by Tesla CEO Elon Musk who saw his net worth surge by an astounding 82%, or $189 billion, reaching a total of $420 billion.

Additionally, Roshni Nadar and family of HCL, with a net worth of Rs 3.5 lakh crore, became the fifth richest woman in the world — and the first Indian woman to break into the global top 10 women — after her father, Shiv Nadar, transferred a 47% stake in HCL to her.

Ambani still Asia's richest:

While Ambani missed out on being part of the elite world's top 10 group, the Reliance chairman still emerged as Asia's richest man.

The man leading the conglomerate has seen his wealth erode as Reliance Industries has struggled with underperformance in its energy and retail businesses. Slowing sales growth and investor concerns over debt have compounded the issues for the conglomerate, which is pivoting toward digital platforms, renewable energy, and retail expansion.

India's wealthy circle:

While Ambanis remained at the top, Adani follows next by becoming India’s biggest wealth gainer in absolute terms on the Hurun Global Rich List 2025, with an impressive increase of nearly Rs 1 lakh crore in his net worth.

Adani built his empire after starting out as a commodities trader. Before Hindenburg's report, Adani, a school drop-out, rose to become Asia's richest person, with businesses across ports, power generation, airports, mining, renewables, media and cement.

On the other hand, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries' Dilip Shanghvi’s wealth grew by 21% to Rs 2.5 lakh crore, moving him to fifth place.
