Hurun Global Rich List: Gautam Adani emerges as India’s top wealth gainer

Gautam Adani (62) has become India’s biggest wealth gainer in absolute terms on the Hurun Global Rich List 2025, with an impressive increase of nearly Rs 1 lakh crore in his net worth.

Gautam Adani’s fortune rose by 13%, securing him the second spot on the list, just behind Mukesh Ambani who has a net wealth of Rs 8.6 lakh crore.

Adani built his empire after starting out as a commodities trader. Before Hindenburg's report, Adani, a school drop-out, rose to become Asia's richest person, with businesses across ports, power generation, airports, mining, renewables, media and cement.

India's richest

Ambani retained the title of India's richest person, despite his wealth declining by Rs 1 lakh crore from last year, with Adani securing the second spot. Roshni Nadar of HCL made her debut on the list with a net worth of Rs 3.5 lakh crore, following her father Shiv Nadar’s transfer of a 47% stake in HCL as part of a succession plan. She is the only woman in India’s Top 10 wealthiest individuals.

Dilip Shanghvi’s wealth grew by 21% to Rs 2.5 lakh crore, moving him to fifth place. Mumbai leads with five billionaires in the top ten, followed by New Delhi with two, and Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Pune each contributing one.

India is home to 284 billionaires, up by 13 from last year.
