BANGALORE: India Incs style quotient is soaring. And its turning the heat on for salons in the city. Corporate houses generate over 50% of salon revenues by pampering their employees.

And leading the pack amongst the corporate sector are hospitality and IT biggies. Veronica D, managing partner of Club Citrus, a premium unisex salon and spa, says a minimum of 200 grooming slips are sold a month to various star hotels in Bangalore for the well being of their employees.

These slips which come in prices ranging from Rs 750 to Rs 1,500 and incorporate a basic head-tofoot makeover with spa treatments thrown in are availed right from the housekeeping staff to the managers of a hotel.

Hotel staff that deal with guests on an hour-to-hour , day-to-day basis become the face of the hotel. Hence, cosmetic grooming as well as etiquette play an important role, says Veronica.

In most client facing roles across verticals, grooming is now a major thrust. The need for grooming stems from various reasons general awareness and standards of grooming have increased, increased travelling and jobs which involve interfacing. Besides, with jobs becoming so stressful, salons and spas are the best ways to destress and relax, says Swati Gupta, creative director of Bodycraft , which has outlets in Frazer Town and Indiranagar.

IT companies pamper their employees by treating them to salon gift vouchers. An IT MNC picked up over 700 gift vouchers from a leading city-based salon, said an industry expert.

And as incomes have gone up, so have the amounts people spend. Almost 80% of my clientele comprise of corporate executive both men and women. Spending Rs 7,000 a month is routine. People go to spas as often as once or twice a week, says Gupta.
