Noel Tata’s three children Neville, Maya and Leah the GenNext Tatas had made a quiet entry into the $104.5 billion Tata Group a few years ago and are working their way up the ladder like any other professional. Each of them has been assigned to businesses they showed an inclination to such as finance, hospitality and retail.

Neville Tata is handling the hyperlocal food part of Trent which has a joint venture with UK’s Tesco. Leah Tata also handles development at the Taj Hotels. A senior official close to the development said that Noel wanted his children to be exposed to all areas of businesses and learn the ropes.

Neville Tata, 32, has taken charge as head of Star Bazaar, the hypermarket unit of Trent, which houses the Tata Group’s retail businesses. An alumnus of the Bayes Business School, London, Neville joined Trent in 2016, heading the packaged food and beverages division before managing Zudio, regarded as a runaway success and now among the biggest apparel brands in the country. He is on the boards of the Tata Social Welfare Trust, the JRD Tata Trust and the RD Tata Trust.


Maya Tata, 34, started her career at the Tata Opportunities Fund, a prominent private equity fund within Tata Capital, where she distinguished herself in portfolio management and investor relations. She soon shifted to Tata Digital and played a key role in the launching of the Tata Neu app. She also serves on the boards of the Tata Education Trust, the RD Tata Trust, and the JRD and Thelma J Tata Trust.

Leah Tata, 39, is vice president at Indian Hotels Company and handles the Gateway Hotels brand. She holds a degree in Marketing from IE Business School, Madrid. She managed the Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai and began her career as an assistant sales manager at Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces in 2006. She is on the boards of the Tata Social Welfare Trust, the Tata Education Trust and the JRD and the Thelma J Tata Trust.
