Gautam Adani, Dilip Shanghvi have emerged top gainers in energy and healthcare segment of Billionaire Index

For Adani Group promoter Gautam Adani, and Sun Pharma promoter Dilip Shanghvi, it couldn’t have been a greater start to a year. They have emerged top gainers since 2015 in the energy and healthcare segment of the Bloomberg Billionaire Index.

Gautam Adani’s decision to do away with a holding company structure has gone down well with investors. It is perceived that this decision would result in value unlocking of his investments in various sectors such as ports, transmission, coal trading and power. Consequently, this has generated high investors’ interest, resulting in Adani’s wealth going up by $2.7 billion to $8.18 billion. This has changed his ranking to 156th in the Bloomberg index. To draw a relative picture, Adani’s wealth today is higher than Vagit Alekperov, CEO of Lukoil, Russia’s secondlargest oil company, and Harold Hamm, the largest shareholder of Continental Resources, the biggest leaseholder in Bakken oil basin. Adani derives bulk of his wealth from his 75% stake in the listed group holding company, Adani Enterprises.

For Dilip Shanghvi, the strategy to acquire niche businesses and turn them around has worked well. His wealth is enhanced by $3.3 billion to $20.4 billion. This growth has earned Shanghvi the 38th ranking in the Bloomberg index.
