Former Vodafone CEO Arun Sarin joins Truecaller Advisory Board

NEW DELHI: Former Vodafone Group chief executive Arun Sarin has joined the Advisory Board of Trucaller, followed by a capital investment in the mobile communications app.

With his global experience and network, Sarin will be focusing on supporting and advising the company on the overall strategy, the Sweden-based company said in a statement on Thursday. Truecaller offers services related to caller ID, spam detection and search.

"Over the last few years, we have grown at an exponential rate both in terms of business and user base, while also having the opportunity to work with companies like Sequoia Capital, Atomico, and KPCB, who have put their trust in us through investments and board roles,” Alan Mamedi, CEO & co-founder of Truecaller said.

Mamedi further added, “We are delighted to have Arun Sarin on our advisory board providing us with required strategic direction at a time when the industry is going through a massive transformation.”

Following the recent launch of the new Truecaller app, which includes features like a built-in dialer, and the roll out of our developer-focused tool, TrueSDK, the company according to Mamedi will be investing in innovation to keeping consumers at the heart of its offerings.

Truecaller was founded in 2009 by Alan Mamedi and Nami Zarringhalam, and the company’s major investors include Sequoia Capital, Atomico and Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers.

“The notion of knowing who’s calling is tremendous and important piece of information for anyone with a phone, “Arun Sarin said.

Sarin also serves on the board of directors of Cisco Systems, Ola Cabs, Charles Schwab and Blackhawk Networks.

Truecaller gives the consumer the right piece of information so they can complete the call,” he said, adding that he sees a huge potential for Truecaller to be part of the bigger eco-system.

Sarin born in Pachmarhi, Madhya Pradesh in India, holds a B.Tech degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, and is an MBA from the Haas School of Business at the University of California.
