Former Amul managing director RS Sodhi joins Reliance Retail in advisory role

Former Amul managing director RS Sodhi has joined Reliance Retail in an advisory role, to build Reliance’s fresh fruit & vegetables vertical and integrate it with its grocery business, executives aware of the development said.
“This is an advisory role, aimed at farmer's integration in the fruit and vegetables vertical. It will be directly linked to the grocery business,” said one of the executives.

Sodhi could not be reached for comment. An email sent to Reliance did not elicit a response.


Sodhi, who led Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells India’s largest dairy brand Amul, had been associated with the dairy cooperative for over four decades.

His role at Reliance Retail Ventures (RRVL), the grocery arm of Reliance Industries, is seen as crucial to escalate the latter’s ambitious plans in the grocery business, the executives said.

Reliance is setting up a distribution network across through an omni-channel strategy.

Reliance Consumer’s existing portfolio includes the acquired Campa cola and Sosyo Hajoori soft drinks, Lotus chocolates and Maliban biscuits, in addition to its own Independence and Good Life brands.

Reliance Retail Ventures reported a consolidated turnover of Rs 1,99,704 crore and net profit of Rs 7,055 crore for the year ended March 31, 2022.
