Mumbai: The first unit of the new Mahindra Thar went under the hammer for almost Rs 1.11 core at a six-days-long online auction that concluded on Tuesday.

The highest bid was from a person named Akash Minda from New Delhi, as per the auction website.

“Less than 2 hours left for the final bids for the Thar#1. It’s now as exciting as a Formula-e race!” Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra wrote on Twitter earlier.

Mahindra and Mahindra will match the amount raised in the winning bid and the entire sum will be donated to either Naandi Foundation, Swades Foundation, or PM CARES fund, as chosen by the winner.

The company is yet to announce the price of the new Thar, but it is estimated to be around Rs 10-15 lakh.

The winner will get to choose from five different variants and six different colours for the Thar and it will be customised with the initials of the winner on the exterior. The vehicle will also carry a decorative VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) plate on the dashboard with the serial number 1.
