Executives don't have risk-based approach to data security: Survey
MUMBAI: As many as 82 percent of the business executives in the country do not equate loss of confidential data with a potential loss of revenue, says a survey.

"The reason...that they do not have a risk-based approach towards security," said Ajay Dubey, national manager of Websense, which along with Ponemon Institute conducted the survey.

All the security-related systems installed at the premises must 'talk to one another' so as to avoid the risk, he added.

Forty-six percent of business executives say their board- level executives have a sub-par understanding of security issues.

The survey covered 500 security professionals in the country.

Seventy-seven per cent believed that cybersecurity threats sometimes fall through the cracks of existing security systems of their firms.

The report has uncovered a startling deficit in security solution effectiveness, a disconnect between company executives and security professionals and limited visibility into attack activity. In fact, India is the third biggest victim of hackers after the US and Britain, Dubey said.
