During N Chandrasekaran’s tenure, Tata Group’s market capitalisation jumped three-fold, supported by a strong ve-times increase in aggregate net profit and two-fold rise in revenue. The group’s market cap at present is Rs 27.5 lakh crore compared with Rs 8.2 lakh crore at the end of March 2017, implying an annualised growth of 11.5%.

Revenue and net profit grew at an annualised rate of 7% and 12.5% to Rs 13.3 lakh crore and Rs 1.6 lakh crore between FY17 and FY26, respectively. Chandrasekaran was appointed as the chairman of Tata Sons in early 2017. The group’s retail entity Trent emerged as the top value creator during Chandrasekaran’s tenure, yielding an annualised stock return of 31%. It was closely followed by Tejas Networks with a return of 30.4%.
The Tata Group acquired the manufacturer of wireline and wireless network products in July 2021. The group’s flagship company and the country’s largest IT exporter Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) was among the laggards earning a meagre 7.4% annualised return during the period.
