ET Awards 2015: Infosys Foundation Corporate Citizen of The Year
The law to mandate corporations spend 2% of their net profits on corporate social responsibility initiatives is laudatory, Sudha Murthy, chairperson of the Infosys Foundation said in Mumbai on Saturday evening, accepting the Corporate Citizen of the Year award. "With so much money ... I wish I were young again," she quipped. From a relatively small focus, she said Infosys Foundation could spread its wings all over India with its philanthropic activities. In her acceptance speech, Murthy, the wife of Infosys co-founder NR Narayana Murthy, recited a well known Sanskrit couplet to drive home the message and purpose of Infosys Foundation.""Na twaham kamaye rajyam na swargam na punarbhavam kamaye duhdkataptanam pranisnamartinasanam." In English, she explained, that translated to: Don't give me freedom, don't give me a king or queen, God, if you want to give me anything, give me a strong hand and a compassionate heart, so that I can touch the souls of all my people.

In her acceptance speech Vandana Sikka, chairperson of Infosys Foundation USA thanked the "tireless volunteers" of the three foundations (Infosys Foundation, Infosys Foundation USA and Infosys Science Foundation) for their work. "They have been really passionate about their work and this award is really for them," she said. Exhorting people to focus more on philanthropy, Sikka said "Be the change, you can be the future ...between all of us lets walk together and create that future."
