Chandra announced Mody’s exit in a tweet. “With a sense of great loss & feelings I had to let Himanshu Mody relieved from the group. Since the businesses are to be restart, I did not want his future progress to be harmed,” Chandra wrote.
MUMBAI: Himanshu Mody, head of finance & strategy at the Essel Group, and a close confidant of chairman Subhash Chandra, has quit the company.

An old hand at the Essel Group, Mody was heading the group’s finance & strategy vertical for its businesses in Media & Entertainment, News & Information, Education, Infrastructure, Gold Refinery, Gaming, Wellness and Lifestyle.

He was spearheading the entire divestment process at Essel Group.


Chandra announced Mody’s exit in a tweet. “With a sense of great loss & feelings I had to let Himanshu Mody relieved from the group. Since the businesses are to be restart, I did not want his future progress to be harmed,” Chandra wrote.

He further added that Mody is and always will remain like “my two sons, Punit and Amit.”

Mody worked directly with Chandra, and in his career of 21 years, was instrumental in key projects of the groups.

He played a vital role in the launch of Fun Republic, a multiplex & lifestyle brand, and was also the force behind the Group’s foray into the sport business.

He also led the launch of India’s first private cricket league – ICL (Indian Cricket League).

Mody also played a crucial role in the acquisition of Ten Sports in the year 2006 and its sale to Sony Pictures Networks.
