Essar Steel Holdings brings in Mehra as CEO

Essar Steel Holdings says it has appointed Jatinder Mehra as the chief executive officer.

MUMBAI: Essar Steel Holdings, a unit of the Ruias’ Essar Global, on Friday said it has appointed Jatinder Mehra as the chief executive officer. The move is seen as another step in consolidating the $4 billion group’s global steel business under a single entity.

Mr Mehra, who till now was resident director of the group’s corporate affairs, “will be responsible for all operations and projects of the steel business of Essar Steel Holdings, including the mines in India and internationally,” the company announced on Friday.

The group’s steel business in India comes under the Essar Steel banner. But earlier this year, the oil-power-shipping-steel conglomerate said it would delist Essar Steel from the Bombay Stock Exchange and that the steel business would come under ESHL. Similar plans were announced for the group’s shipping and oil businesses also.

Mr Mehra joined the Essar group in 1997 and among his various stints within the organisation, worked as the managing director for Essar Steel. The 45-year industry veteran has also worked with Steel Authority of India and Rashtriya Ispat Nigam.
