Discussions on with Manchester United: Sahara chief

Sahara Group chairman Subroto Roy on Monday confirmed that discussions are on with Manchester United on the possibility of sponsoring the English club's T-shirts but refused to spell out details.

NEW DELHI: Sahara Group chairman Subroto Roy on Monday confirmed that discussions are on with Manchester United on the possibility of sponsoring the English club's T-shirts but refused to spell out details saying the negotiation is only at the 'preliminary stage'.

"It's at the preliminary stage and I would like not to comment anything about that. All I can say is that the discussions are on," Roy told reporters here on Monday.

Insurance giant American International Group (AIG) recently announced that it was not going to renew the four-year deal, worth 6.5 million pound, it signed with the English club in 2006.

Looking for a replacement to its main shirt sponsor, Manchester United sent a proposal to Sahara but the Indian business conglomerate is yet to make up its mind.
