NEW DELHI: Welcome to the DISC. And it sure is rocking across India Inc. DISC profiling has been in use for a while now since players such as Bharti Airtel, ST Microelectronics, Whirlpool India and American Express are said to have incorporated this popular self-assessment tool.

ST Microelectronics HR manager Praneet Mehrish says, DISC profiling is a psychometric test used to gauge behavioural issues and can be used as a developmental tool as well as an input for hiring. Such profiling is based on the work of William Moulton Marston in 1928. It helps explore behaviour across 4 dimensions: Dominance, Influence, Steadiness & Conscientiousness (DISC).

People with high D scores are very active in dealing with problems and challenges. Low D scores imply people who are conservative or simply low-key. High I scorers influence others through talking and activity and are the emotional sorts. Low I scorers are influenced more by data and facts, not by feelings.

A high S score suggests steady pace and security and a low S score indicates restlessness. High C scorers adhere to rules, regulations and structure, while the low graders are stubborn and often, cavalier. DISC profiles describe and measure behaviour in a specific environment. But, Executive Access MD Ronesh Puri cautions, The tool is not fool-proof since it doesnt give 100% accuracy.
