TIRUCHIRAPALLI: There is an increasing demand worldwide for skilled and unskilled labour from India, according to a top official of West Asia Exports and Imports Limited.

Global corporations prefer skilled labour from India due to their sincerity and ability to grasp matters, West Asia Exports and Imports Ltd (WAEIL) National Head (Human Resources) K Jafar Ali said.

WAEIL is the human resources management division of Dubai-based multi-national Eta Ascot group. Ali said recruitment of skilled and unskilled personnel had been increasing by 25 per cent year-on-year in the last few years.

For the Ascon group with a presence in over 28 countries, WAEIL hired about 10,000 people last year. Almost 70 per cent of total recruitments comprised artisans and skilled labour like masons, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, welders, turners and machinists.

"The remaining is a mix of supervisors, managers and senior level executivies," he said.

WAEIL had collaborative arrangements with industrial training institutes, polytechnics and colleges to impart the orientation programme by professional faculty members. It had also embarked on industry institute interactive sessions.

The company has roped in NICMAR, Hyderabad for programs in advanced construction management in Goa and Hyderabad, he said.
