Nilekani and Siddhartha knew each other well as the latter helped take Infosys public.

Nandan Nilekani said India needs a social fabric that does not link the failure of a business with the entrepreneur because if clubbed together there are consequences.

Nilekani, who is a chairman at Infosys and a startup investor, was speaking at a fireside session on entrepreneurship in Bengaluru with venture capital investor Vinod Khosla.

He wasn't addressing a direct question about Cafe Coffee Day Founder VG Siddhartha's suicide. However, his death has started a conversation on entrepreneurship challenges in India and the metal stress it brings along.

"We need a social fabric that delinks business failure from a person. Failure is a tremendous experience but when failure if an institution gets entwined with an entrepreneur there are consequences," Nilekani said.

Nilekani was an old friend of Siddhartha ad is a minority shareholder in Coffee Day Enterprises.
