NEW DELHI: Eminent banker Deepak Parekh has been conferred on prestigious Cross of the Order of Merit by Germany for his contribution towards Indo-German relations.

In a ceremony held in Mumbai on Monday May 26, Consul General of Germany, Michael Siebert, bestowed the 'Bundesverdienstkreuz', Germany's Cross of the Order of Merit, on Parekh.

Through this order, Germany acknowledges the personal commitment and the outstanding contribution of the awardee to Indo-German relations over many years.

"Deepak Parekh, one of the most respected personalities in the Indian finance sector for this outstanding entrepreneurial success and his integrity, has played a pioneering role in fostering Indo-German economic cooperation," Siebert said in a statement.

Parekh has always been most reliable point of contact for German business, giving advice, counselling and encouraging whenever required, the statement said.
