CSR becoming an important agenda for corporates: KPMG

NEW DELHI: Corporates are becoming more sensitive towards social issues and are increasingly getting involved in tackling the most pressing ones, a survey says.

A recent visit organised by Global Partner Network (GPN), an organisation to promote CSR among corporates, has found that business leaders are nowadays inclined to play a role in tackling some of the most pressing social issues.

"Increased competition and commercial pressure combined with rising regulatory standards and consumer demand has resulted in business facing challenging times world-wide," global consultancy firm KPMG International CEO Mike P Wareing said.

Conventional methods of business and expectations from consumers are also changing. It is no longer enough to simply employ people, make a profit and pay taxes. Companies are now expected to act responsibly, be accountable and benefit society as a whole, he added.

The Global Partner Network (GPN) along with the support of Business in The Community (BITC) organised a corporate citizen event for senior business leaders in Bangalore.
