Coronavirus: Essar Foundation to provide 12.5 lakh meals, 1 lakh medical supplies to people in need

Mumbai: Essar group’s corporate social responsibility arm, Essar Foundation has committed to provide 12.5 lakh meals to the Covid-19 outbreak affected communities and to provide 100,000 medical supplies to frontliners combating the virus spread, the company said in a press release on Wednesday.

“Our efforts have been focussed on reaching out to the most vulnerable communities. Being part of the Government of Maharashtra Corona Control CSR Group, we are able to coordinate directly with the state machinery and work jointly with leading groups,” said the company’s CEO, Kaustubh Sonalkar.

The company has reached out to Essar employees and senior leadership to contribute to the fund, he said.


“We have supplied Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), N-95, 3Ply face masks and hand sanitisers to over 10 Government /Private Hospitals in Mumbai and over 9 police stations across South Mumbai”.

The company has also successfully provided 6.65 lakh meals to communities in need across Maharashtra including, frontline doctors, mumbai police force, slum dwellers, daily wage earners, women who underwent domestic violence and transgenders, the company said in a statement.

Essar Foundation has also provided around 20,000 meals a day to the Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Relief Fund routed to marginalised and disadvantaged communities.

“We also have tie-ups with several companies and non-profits to consolidate structured relief efforts by identifying communities and responsibly directing funds,” said Sonalkar who is also the group president human resource.
