CII, ITC to increase awareness on corporate ESG rating system

Industry body CII and corporate house ITC are working on a plan to publicise global equity research firm Standard and Poor's ratings of companies based on their social and environmental initiatives.

NEW DELHI: Industry body CII and corporate house ITC are working on a plan to publicise global equity research firm Standard and Poor's ratings of companies based on their social and environmental initiatives.

S&P will soon make the ratings available on the NSE website.

The CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development, which worked with S&P on the guidelines for evaluating performance of Indian companies on environment, social and corporate governance front, is working to develop a programme to increase the awareness on the ratings.

"A programme is being worked by the centre of excellence to let the people know about the rating system," CII-ITC Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Development Head Seema Arora told reporters here.

The centre is also working with companies like L&T, Airtel, Power Grid Corporation, Sesa Goa, Sanmar Group and the Bhilai Steel Plant to come out with their sustainability reports, she said.

The centre was set up for creating an enabling environment for Indian corporates to pursue sustainability goals. It makes available the services of experts to advise Indian industry on best practices on sustainability.
