NEW DELHI: Chinese mobile phone maker Transsion Holdings is planning to launch a 4G feature phone in India and is exploring a supply tie-up or a co-branded device with Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries for its JioPhone.

“Jio is pushing for their 4G feature phone in India. We are planning to do it and are involved in discussions with them for the second phase of JioPhone. We are exploring both dual-branding and ODM (original device maker) partnership with them,” Transsion India managing director Marco Ma told ET.

Itel, which is among the top three players in the feature phone segment in India, is part of the Transsion Group that also sells handsets under Tecno and Infinix.

The group also holds a majority stake in a joint venture that operates Spice Mobile. Asked if the company will also go to the open market with its 4G feature phone, the executive said, “…the priority is to go with Jio at the moment”.
