NEW DELHI: India, along with its emerging market peers Brazil, China and Russia, offers best career options for majority of executives around the world as opposed to the developed nations such as the US, Europe and Japan, a latest survey says.
As per an executive quiz, focussed on international career options for todays business leaders and released by talent management solutions provider The Korn/Ferry Institute, around 64 per cent respondents feel that the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) nations offer the best career options.
While just 22 per cent executives selected the United States and nine per cent preferred other developed economies such as Western Europe and Japan, the survey revealed.
Futher, other findings from survey stated that 61 per cent of respondents had been offered an international assignment and among them, 83 per cent had moved out of their country of origin for a career opportunity.
About 63 per cent said the current economy would not affect their decision to take an overseas assignment, while 22 per cent believed they were more likely to accept an international posting if offered during an economic slow down, it said.

Interestingly, 83 per cent of respondents felt that international assignments have the potential to accelerate career growth, while 82 per cent said they would commit to an international assignment for a year or longer and 24 per cent were willing to move for more than five years. Meanwhile, just 12 per cent of respondents said they would not take an international position for any length of time, the Korn/Ferry survey stated.
The largest barrier for acceptance of an international posting by an executive was family considerations (62 per cent), followed by language (13 per cent), difficulties returning to country of origin (eight per cent), security (five per cent), cost (five per cent) and living standards (four per cent).

"Todays leaders have to be globally aware and understand a variety of international markets, economies and cultures to support their career growth," Korn/Ferry International Chief Executive Officer Gary Burnison said. The allure of the emerging markets presents significant career opportunities in a time of great change. Our survey results demonstrate how willing executives are to be mobile, which is increasingly a prerequisite for top management in global companies, Burnison added.

The Korn/Ferry Institute Executive Quiz was based on a global survey of executives registered within the firms online executive center, ekornferry.com and respondents from more than 70 countries participated in the most recent quiz in July-August this year.Download
