BR Nahar is Birla Corp's new CEO

KOLKATA: Birla Corporation’s board on Thursday appointed its executive president BR Nahar as its executive director & chief executive officer. Mr Nahar will replace managing director KC Mittal who ceased to be a director on completion of his term on August 02, ’06.

Besides, Anand Bordia has been appointed as additional director on the board, the company stated in a notice sent across to the stock exchanges on Thursday. According to the company’s website, Mr Nahar was executive director of the Essar Group in Mumbai prior to his association with Birla Corp.

A chartered accountant, Mr Nahar has also been the joint managing director of Hy Grade Pellets (HGPL) — a joint venture between the Essar group and Stemcor of UK. He was also associated with Vikram Ispat of the Aditya Birla Group as executive president.

Mr Mittal has been associated with the group for sometime now. Prior to his association with Birla Corp, Mr Mittal has been the chairman of General Insurance Corporation.

He was also associated with the Insurance Regulatory Development Authority , Oriental, New India and National Insurance. He joined the Birla’s board as a representative of General Insurance and its subsidiaries.
