Big products recalls of 2011: Maruti Suzuki, Toyota and Sun Pharma, etc.
Toyota has just recalled 41,000 of its Etios cars in India to replace a faulty filler hose pipe. In September, Honda issued a recall for 72,000 cars of its City model.
Maruti Suzuki
In April 2011, the company recalled 13,157 units of diesel models of the Dzire, Swift and Ritz cars to replace the ‘connecting rod bolt’.
Sun Pharma
In April 2009, Caraco, Sun’s US offshoot, recalled cardiac drug Digoxin. Because the tablets “may differ in size and...could have more or less of...Digoxin", Caraco said.
Toyota
In 2009 and 2010, it issued a mega recall of several million cars globally because of a faulty accelerator pedal and braking system. The Indian recall seems small by comparison.
Ikea
In June 2010, the furniture company recalled over 3 million roller and other types of shades. The recall was because the cords on them were a ‘strangulation’ risk.
In September 2010, the toy company recalled 10 million products, including toy playgrounds, toddler tricycles, and other products. It was the biggest toy recall in history.
