BHEL employees honoured for innovative ideas

BHEL employees bag Vishwakarma National Awards '06 for innovative suggestions leading to cost reduction and high productivity.

NEW DELHI: Power equipment supplier Bharat Heavy Electricals (BHEL) on Monday said its eight employees have bagged Vishwakarma National Awards for 2006 for innovative suggestions leading to cost reduction and high productivity.

The awards have been shared by the eight employees from the company's Haridwar, Bhopal and Trichy units. This has taken the total number of Vishwakarma awards won by the company's employees to 100, a BHEL statement said.

Also, three national safety awards have been recieved by BHEL's Electronics and Electroporcelains divisions of Bangalore for achievement of longest accident-free period.

The awards were presented by Minister of State for Labour and Employment Oscar Fernandes, the release said.

BHEL has achieved savings of Rs 177 crore during fiscal 2006-07 due to implementation of an Improvement Projects Rewards Scheme aimed at encouraging individuals to improve in all spheres of activities.

During the year, about 9,500 improvement projects were registered, taking the total to 23,700 since introduction of the scheme in 2005-07. Total savings of the scheme so far have risen to Rs 398 crore, BHEL said.
