Barclays announces Covid-19 support measures for employees in India

British multinational bank Barclays on Friday announced a set of support measures for their 20,000 employees in India and their families amid the second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic. The new measures will offer both financial and on-the-ground support, it said in a statement.

“We are very grateful for the resilience and dedication shown by our colleagues in the last year. Given the current pandemic situation in India, we hope that these new measures will lessen the burden on our colleagues and provide further assistance towards taking care of themselves and their families” said Jaideep Khanna, Head of Barclays Asia Pacific.

The measures include facilitating vaccinations and enhanced insurance for colleagues and their families, including their parents, uncapped paid leave, financial aid and support channels such as a 24/7 COVID helpline, peer-to-peer network support, 24/7 helpline for free counselling and online doctor consultations.


“Our colleagues in India have worked exceptionally hard throughout the pandemic and during this heightened crisis it’s vital we offer them the right support. This package has been carefully put together, with the wellbeing of our colleagues a top priority”, said Jes Staley, Group CEO.

Barclays added that it looks to continue monitoring the situation for all of its employees globally.
