Bankers need to be saluted for what they have done in last 6 weeks: TCS CEO N Chandrasekaran

MUMBAI: India is a bright spot in the global economy and the best days of the Indian IT industry still lay ahead, TCS CEO N Chandrasekaran said at the ET Corporate Excellence Awards.

“No matter where we go, from Latin America to Japan, people want to know how we can grow so fast a country with our complexity," Chandrasekaran said.

Chandrasekaran, who won the Business Leader of the Year Award, thanked his parents, family, teachers, colleagues at TCS and the broader Tata Group for helping him become the leader he is today.

“I want to take a moment to thank them because many people contributed to my development as a human being," Chandrasekaran said.

He added that though demonetization was painful and challenging in the short term, it would give rise to many benefits in the medium and long term. Chandrasekaran also took a moment to thank the bankers in the audience.

"All the bankers in the audience here need to be saluted for what they have done in the last six weeks. It is easy to work like this for a weekend but very hard to sustain the effort for so many weeks."

TCS, which counts a slew of financial institutions including the Reserve Bank of India as clients, has been working with its customers to change the IT systems to implement the changes due to demonetization.
