B20 Summit: India should take steps to build labour info management system, says Kamineni

New Delhi: Stakeholders should take the initial steps to build an international universal labour information management system (ULIMS) as part of the B20 center of excellence, a B20 task recommended on Friday.

B20 India Task Force on the Future of Work, Skilling, and Mobility that had 179 members from G20 countries and seven other countries, made a 60-page policy recommendation, making seven broad points across three frameworks — Future of work, imperative for skilling, and enhancing mobility.

“There is a need to recognise and enable diverse forms of work, including open-ended gig workers, fixed-term, part-time and self-employed work as well as how do you organise them..all of these are crucial for all our businesses, to enable them to respond to the changing markets and for future disruptions,” said Shobana Kamineni, Executive Vice Chairperson of Apollo Hospitals and Chair, B20 India Task Force on Future of Work, Skilling, and Mobility.


She was speaking at the B20 Summit India.

The task force also recommended developing a framework for defining jobs of the future, bridging the formal and informal workforce divide, accelerating workforce skilling, ensuring mental well-being of the workforce, and removing policy barriers and leveraging technology to enable cross-border mobility to match skills, demand, and supply.
