Axiata Group nominee Hansa Wijayasuriya resigns from Idea Board

Idea Cellular on Friday said that Hansa Wijayasuriya, nominee of Axiata Group Berhad, who is on the board of the telecom firm, has tendered his resignation from the board effective from March 30.

The Kumar Mangalam Birla-owned telco, in a regulatory filing, on Friday said that, this was "pursuant to withdrawal of his nomination by the Axiata Group Berhad".

Hansa Wijayasuriya also ceases to be a member of audit committee of the board of directors of Idea, added the telco.


Idea Celluar is in the final stages of its merger with Vodafone Cellular . Malaysia's Axiata owns about 20% in Idea Cellular, but it's stake is being reduced proportionately in the new merged entity.
