Vijay Mallya, chairman of United Breweries Holdings Ltd, received the highest amount of Rs 8.8 crore a year from remunerative directorships among all Rajya Sabha MPs, according to a recent ADR report. He also held the maximum number of directorships. The report said Mallya also received `2.5 crore in the form of regular remunerated activity from three companies. The information released by ADR was procured through an RTI seeking to know the pecuniary interests of members of the Upper House. This information is different from the declaration of the assets and liabilities of the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha members made at regular intervals. The Rajya Sabha members are required to mention their pecuniary interests under these heads: remunerative directorship; regular remunerative activity; shareholding of a controlling nature; paid consultancy and professional engagement.
