MUMBAI: Telecom operator are battling it out for Aircel's customers in Tamil Nadu and Chennai .

Market leader Bharti Airtel said it has got the largest share - around 50% nationally - of port-ins from Aircel customers in the last couple of weeks.

“It is heartening to see Airtel being the most preferred operator for Aircel customers across India. This also underlines the strength of our robust distribution network and digital onboarding services,"Ajai Puri, COO,Airtel told ET.


Over two million Aircel customers across India have already ported to Airtel. In Tamil Nadu, the telco's stronghold, approximately 1.5 million Aircel customers have successfully ported to Airtel, said the Sunil Mittal owned operator.

Competitor Vodafone, on its part, said that more than 10 lakh subscribers of Aircel have ported to their network in the last couple of weeks.

Malaysian Maxis owened Aircel under debt of Respect 50,000 crore has recently filed for bankruptcy.
