Heerjee will, however, continue to work with the insolvency resolution professional (IRP) to help the telco, which has filed for bankruptcy protection, sort out its interim funding, said people familiar with the developments. Tuesday was his last working day in Aircel. Aircel, majority owned by Malaysia’s Maxis, didn’t respond to an emailed query, while Heerjee, who is believed to be overseas, couldn’t be reached for comments.
Heerjee was nominated as the CEO of Aircel towards the end of 2013 after that post lay vacant for almost eight months. He was chief operating officer (COO) under Sandip Das, who left his position as Aircel CEO to join Mukesh Ambani’s Jio.
Heerjee had joined Aircel from Malaysian operator U Mobile a year before he became CEO.
