About 9.2 lakh companies active in country, 1.43 lakh dormant

NEW DELHI: There were about 9.20 lakh active companies as on November 30, 2013, of the total 13.59 lakh registered firms in the country, the Corporate Affairs Ministry said today.

Besides, 1.43 lakh companies have not filed their annual returns or balance sheets for more than past three consecutive years and are classified as 'dormant', the ministry said in a release.

As on November 30, 2013, there were 13.59 lakh companies registered with the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, it said.

Of these, as many as 2.66 lakh companies have been closed for various reasons including court order and voluntary winding up, while another 29,310 firms are in the process of being liquidated, the release said.

"As a result, there were actually about 9.20 lakh active companies as on November 30, 2013," it said.
