163 Indian companies invest $40 billion in US, create 4.25 lakh jobs: CII

Indian companies have invested over $40 billion in the US and created over 425,000 direct jobs, the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) said in a report on the Indian industry’s footprint in the US.

As per the report titled ‘Indian Roots, American Soil’, 85% of surveyed companies plan to hire additional local employees in the next five years, with 83% planning future US investments. 50% of survey participants also reported anticipating greater US-based R&D projects in their funding pipelines.

“Indian Industry’s increased engagement with the US through escalating investments, job creation, CSR and R&D bolsters local communities and enhances the competitiveness of the US workforce,” CII said.


Indian foreign direct investment (FDI) is present in all 50 American states, with the highest in Texas followed by Georgia, New Jersey, New York, and Massachusetts.

163 companies across sectors like life sciences, pharmaceuticals and healthcare; IT and telecom, manufacturing and services have invested in the US.

Texas, New York, New Jersey, Washington, Florida and California are the biggest beneficiaries of the most direct jobs created by Indian companies, while
Texas, Georgia, New Jersey, New York and Massachusetts have the highest FDI from Indian firms, CII said.
