Karnataka Government Issues Guidelines to tackle rising Dengue cases
In response to the growing health crisis, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced an action plan to combat the spread of dengue. He emphasized the need for preparedness in hospitals, stating, "7,362 dengue cases have been registered till now this year. 7 people have died. 10 beds in a ward must be allotted at every hospital for dengue cases...Free mosquito nets must be provided to slum residents."The government has mobilized resources and personnel across various departments to focus on source reduction, which involves eliminating mosquito breeding sites. Asha workers and volunteers have been tasked with conducting door-to-door visits to educate residents and ensure compliance with preventive measures.
Here are the main guidelines, including penalties and strict directives issued by Karanataka government to stop the spread of Dengue:

Prevention of Mosquito Breeding:
Responsibilities of Owners/Occupiers: All owners, occupiers, and persons in charge of any land or building must take necessary measures to prevent mosquito breeding. This includes:
- Ensuring water storage containers, sumps, and overhead tanks are securely covered.
- Disposing of solid waste to prevent water accumulation.
- Avoiding the storage of empty vessels, unused tyres, and other items that can retain water and promote mosquito breeding.
- Preventing water collection in unused tanks, pits, or burrows.
- Construction Sites: Measures must be taken at construction sites to prevent the accumulation of water and mosquito breeding.
Powers of Competent Authority: The competent authority (Chief Commissioner of BBMP or Deputy Commissioner of the district) is empowered to inspect properties and issue directions to ensure compliance with mosquito prevention measures.
Inspection Rights: The authority can inspect any land or building between sunrise and sunset after giving reasonable notice. The owner or occupier must facilitate the inspection and provide necessary information.
Karanataka Dengue Prevention: Penalties for Non-Compliance:
Urban Areas:Households: Rs 400
Commercial Establishments, Offices, Schools & Colleges, Healthcare Facilities, etc.: Rs 1,000
Active/Abandoned Construction Sites and Vacant Lands: Rs 2,000
Rural Areas:
Households: Rs 200
Commercial Establishments, Offices, Schools & Colleges, Healthcare Facilities, etc.: Rs 500
Additional Fines: Fifty percent of the total fine amount will be levied additionally for each week of continued non-compliance after receiving notice from the competent authority.
