The Karnataka government has declared a three-day state mourning following the demise of former Chief Minister and External Affairs Minister SM Krishna. Flags will be flown at half-mast at key government offices, and Wednesday has been declared a holiday as a mark of respect. As per the official order, no government functions or entertainment programs will be held during the mourning period. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar announced that Krishna's funeral would be conducted with full state honors in his hometown, Maddur. The final rites are scheduled for 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Karnataka Schools, Colleges, Offices closed Tomorrow

The three-day state mourning is from December 10 to 12, official notification said. During this period, there will be no official entertainment programmes and the national flag will be flown at half mast in all government buildings, it said. As per the notification, the schools, colleges and government offices will remain closed tomorrow.


There has been no holiday announcement for banks. All public and private sector banks are likely to stay open tomorrow.

Public tributes

The public has been allowed to pay their respects to SM Krishna. Arrangements have been made for tributes in Bengaluru until 8 a.m. on Wednesday and in Maddur between 10:30 a.m. and 3 p.m. the same day.

Legislature session discussions

The ongoing winter legislature session is likely to be impacted by Krishna’s passing. Opposition parties and the government plan to meet in a Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting to decide whether to continue the session or adjourn in light of the situation.
