Bengaluru Rains: Torrential rains bring India's silicon city to a halt
Multiple factors, including bad governance, high corruption and lack of urban reforms are the main reasons behind the present miseries of Bengaluru city, worst affected by floods, said IT industry veteran TV Mohandas Pai. The former Chief Financial Officer of Infosys said executive and legislative have both failed the citizens.

"...result of ineffective government, bad governance and high corruption. Money is allocated and largely shoddy work due to high corruption, lack of capability in the corporation, illegal construction, the list goes on," Pai said on Bengaluru floods.

"It also shows lack of urban reforms across all our cities over the last 30 years," he added.

India's "Silicon Valley" is hit by an unusually high amount of rains this monsoon. The city has received 162% more rainfall than average since June 1. This has led to massive flooding across the city. Many parts of the state are witnessing flood-like situations due to heavy rains.

Bengaluru has received 135 mm of rainfall between August 31 and September 6. Normally the city received 34 mm of rainfall in this period. From September 5, usually, 6 mm of rainfall is received in 24 hours, but this time 34 mm rains have been received. The south west Monsoon brought 130 mm of rainfall till September 6, however, 317 mm of rainfall has been received. IMD has predicted more rains for the next 5 days.

The two zones in Bengaluru's East, Mahadevapura and Bommanahalli, which house major IT companies, have been affected the most. Mahadevapura MLA Aravind Limbavali stated that all the water from the city flows through Mahadevapura resulting in the present situation.
