A Bengaluru woman lost a case against Apple India after spilling coffee on her new Apple laptop and being denied repair coverage under AppleCare+. The woman, who had purchased a MacBook Pro 13-inch laptop with AppleCare+ coverage, accidentally damaged the device when she spilled coffee on the keyboard.

Despite paying Rs 22,900 for the AppleCare+ coverage, which promised protection against accidental damage, the woman was informed that internal damage caused by liquid spills was not covered. She took the laptop to the store, but they returned it citing the same reason.

On January 23, the woman filed a complaint against Apple India, iCare Ample Technologies, and Imagine Store, accusing them of unfair trade practices. However, the third additional district consumer disputes redressal commission ruled in favor of Apple India.

In its verdict, the consumer court noted that the customer, despite approaching the court, had contacted Apple's authorised service centre and got the damaged laptop fixed on February 4. She had concealed the matter in the complaint and failed to prove her claim.

It is important to note that accidental or unexpected damage to internal components due to liquid spills is generally not covered under warranties. Customers should take necessary precautions to avoid such incidents or explore alternative coverage options.
